Happiness is travelling with friends.
There is something special about Jay and this friend of him. In fact, he is the only friend of Jay. They know each other for more than 25 years. They are childhood friends. Later both of them did their B.Tech in different colleges in same city – Banglore. Then both of them got placed in different MNCs in same city – Hyderabad. Then both of them were posted onsite in neighbouring states of same country – USA. Jay was in US when his friend got married. His friend was in US when Jay got married. Finally we all met on Jay’s last birthday, when they decided to drive down all the way from Washington to California, just to see us. Now about us, wives. Both of us like teaching. P (Jay’s friend’s wife) has a degree in it too. Both of us love art and craft. She owns a shop too in Etsy.
Jay and me promised them to visit Washington when we met last time. But it never happened. Then we decided to meet somewhere in the middle for Thanksgiving vacation. Every place we checked, there was a possibility of snow shower and driving in snow was not a good option for us. Then we thought of booking a bus tour to somewhere new, where both the families have not visited. Thats how we booked our tickets for Utah.
Then began the countdown. We shopped a few winter clothes, for the weather forecast was upto -11. All the planning happened between me and P over Whatsapp. She baked a cake. I made GB’s masala peanuts. She grabbed a bag of Ghiradelli. I made some cashew cookies from Yummy Tummy.
The hungama started on Wednesday itself. Our friends drove down and joined us by Wednesday evening. It was 1 degree outside. Everybody settled infront of the big heater in the living room with a comforter and blanket. It reminded me of the days when I used to go for camps / tours when I was at school.
We left at 7 o clock on Thursday. On Day 1, we travelled from California to Nevada. The tour guide was a female. She introduced herself as Mamma, as she will be taking care of all the passengers as her own family. She stuck to her promise till the end. She was so so so nice. First day was a straight drive to Vegas. All we did was eat, pee and sleep.
Friday morning, we drove from Nevada to Utah. Utah follows Mountain Time and is one hour ahead of us. Our first destination was Zion National Park. A prominent feature of the park is Zion Canyon cut through the reddish and tan-colored Navajo Sandstone by the Virgin River.
We were dropped at a point to go hiking. I managed til here.
Next stop is a dream come true for me. Will post about it tomorrow.
